Most AI visibility tools dump every signal into a single number. The problem: a brand AI has never heard of and a brand AI knows but doesn't recommend first can both score zero — and they need completely different work. We split every audit into Visibility and Awareness so the gap between them tells us exactly what to fix.

Visibility

When customers ask, do you show up?

We simulate real buyer-intent prompts — the kind of questions people type the day before they pick up the phone. "Best estate lawyer in Mississauga?" "Independent dentist downtown Hamilton?" "Fee-only financial advisor near me?"

Your Visibility score reflects how often you're named, where you rank when you do, and how AI describes you. It's the score tied directly to revenue.

Awareness

Does AI know you exist at all?

Separate prompts that force exhaustive answers — "List the top 20 dental practices in Hamilton" — probe AI's full knowledge of your market.

If you appear at rank 15 in the long list, your Awareness is non-zero even when Visibility is. AI knows you're in the market — you're just not top-of-mind for natural questions.

Why splitting the score matters

A single score either drops the exhaustive-list signal (misleading — AI clearly knows you) or averages it in (misleading the other way — customers won't find you that way). Neither reflects reality.

More importantly, the two patterns need completely different fixes:

  • Zero Visibility, zero Awareness — foundation stage. Directory listings on the right platforms, structured data on your website, profiles on the review sites AI trusts, NAP consistency. Infrastructure tasks, not content tasks.
  • Zero Visibility, healthy Awareness — competition stage. AI knows you exist but names competitors first. The fix is content that wins the query: LinkedIn posts, Google Business posts, and FAQ pages.
